A Library Card is the Coolest Card – September is Library Card Sign-Up Month
Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school. September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the San Bernardino Public Library joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that every student has the most import school supply of all – a free library card.
Resources at the San Bernardino Public Library are available to anyone who has a library card. Students can turn to the library for materials, programs and knowledgeable library staff that support academic achievement.
Today's libraries aren't only a place of quiet study, but also creative and engaging community centers where students can collaborate using new technologies, attend workshops, meet authors, or just relax with peers.
Our library offers access to a variety of print and digital resources, including Overdrive's eBooks and Audiobooks; ReferenceUSA –a business database of interest to job hunters, salespeople and marketers; Brainfuse – online tutors are available 1-10 p.m. daily for those in elementary, middle school, high school, introductory college and adult education in subjects including English, math, science, social science and other topics. LearningExpressLibrary - sample tests with questions to help preparation for the GED, SAT, ASVAB and various employment-related tests; Zinio – Popular magazines offered in electronic format; General Reference Center - mostly full-text magazine articles; Opposing Viewpoints – full-text articles on both sides of social issues like gun control; full-text newspaper articles from America's News including the San Bernardino Sun since 2001; and learning many other languages with Mango and Pronunciator These databases can be accessed in person at the library or online with your library card.
"Our library provides access and programs for students of all ages," says Library Director Ed Erjavek. There's really something for everyone and it's all free with a library card."
